What am I looking at? This is the first time I haven’t been able to identify something someone sent me. And people have sent me some real tough ones.
Update: new picture
Trunk lettering is confirmed to say “Arcturus.”
Spasoje solved it. It is a custom Fiat 600 made using parts of many different American cars. This Hemmings story is really interesting.

A Fiat 600 that’s either coachbuilt or custom. I have a normal one, and would recognize that front end from a mile away!

Ok, whew, I said custom built Fiat 600 but I wasn't quite sure.

It sure is a wi er d one though. Check out the new picture he sent me.

Now with that update photo, we know exactly what it is:

You got it! What a strange car. That ain't the kind of thing he usually sends me at all. I wish I could have seen it.

Especially interesting because it’s a one of one. I thought I knew all the various Fiat 600 variants, but here we are...

I was thinking Crosley, which led me to CL , which revealed these classics , in case anyone is interested in their own project.
Sadly not convertibles. Especially sadly not FarmOroads .

Yes, I looked at it and immediately thought European rear engines car of the people. I wasn't sure it wasn't VW based but the windshield and wheelbase made me initially think 600 like you did but then I doubted myself enough to not include my guess in the post. The hood actually isn't Fiat like I thought. Interesting read.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of those.
Turns out it was a customized Fiat 600.

Yeah, I saw the Hemmings link. Cool project.
Here’s a FarmOroad I found nearby.

Also a Crosley Pup

Somewhere I have a stash of Crosley pics I took at a local car show; the guy who owns the FarmOroad also has a handful of others, apparently he knows someone in the family who owned the company back in the day.

That is some fascinating history! What a weird company. I suppose they didn't stand much of a chance surviving but at least they made some really delightfully strange cars and 4x4s

No, the hood is definitely Fiat (it’s identical to mine) ! The Chevy truck hood is actually at the back.
BTW, is it cool if I share the pics to a Fiat 600/Zastava 750 fan page? They'd love to see it!

The FarmOroad was available as 4 wheel drive, but it didn’t have a front axle, and it certainly wasn’t IFS.
Instead, they made it “4 wheel drive” by making it a dually!
Here are the car show pics.

What delightfully strange vehicles.

Go ahead! Not my pictures but my friend didn’t mind that I shared them here.
The hood is off a Chevy cut down to look like a Fiat good according to the Hemmings article. Though the hood was definitely what screamed 600 to me.

Pretty cool little runabout.

Indeed. According to the Hemmings article, it has really gotten around. Glad he actually drives it about. ANY Fiat 600 is enough to make me drop everything to see it, but this? Just wonderful.

They mentioned the Chevy hood was cut down to fit between the fins, so its gotta be at the back

Oh, would you mind linking to the Fiat 600 forum article you mentioned.

from the rear to the windshield it looks awesome, the front looks like a communist block reject, to me anyways
